he first bet for players is most often the 'Pass line bet', and it's made by placing your chips in the large band that runs around the outside of the table with the word PASS written in it. The pass line bet is placed in anticipation of the 'come out roll'. The come out roll is the first roll of a session. Since there is no one else playing playing along with you while you are online, it may be difficult to tell if a session has begun. There is one sure way to determine if the session has started already, or if you are currently on the come out roll. Just like in land-based craps games, there is what is known as a 'puck' on the table at all times. This puck has the word 'OFF' written on one side, and the word 'ON' on the other. If the session has not yet started and we are on a come out roll, the puck will not be on the playing surface and it will be 'OFF' side up. |

Craps Rules
If you've read our introduction to the game of craps, you're already familiar with how a session progresses, and how to place a pass line bet. This is an excellent start. All you need to learn now are the other bets and when you can place them. When and where you can place bets comprises not only a guide, but also a good summary of craps rules.
Let's have a look at the specific parts of the table where you place your bets. In a land-based casino the craps table is twice as long as it needs to be, with each end being a copy of the other in order to accommodate more people around the table. Online craps of course is slightly different, as you are only presented with one end of the board, simply because it's all you need.
A player selection bet is a wager that the player will have the higher hand, a dealer selection bet is a wager that the dealer will have a higher hand, and a tie is a wager that the dealer and player will have a tie – equal – hand value.
The pass line is a long wide strip of felt that runs along the outer edge of the craps table. From here players can place chips for a pass line bet. Our pass line bet page also covers issues of playing with odds.
ust above the pass line is a thinner band of felt (broken at the corner by the big 6 / big 8 area). This is where you place your don't pass bets (essentially the opposite of a pass line bet) on the table.
The big 6 and big 8 bets reside in a small area above the corner of the pass line and in between the two sides of the don't pass bar. This bet, as you will read, is similar to a place bet with regards to craps rules, but with overall poorer results for the player.
Craps Strategy
A good craps strategy is a combination of intelligent bankroll management, a keen understanding of the smart bets on the table, and a relaxed straightforward attitude towards playing. Learn each of these skills and you will be miles ahead of 95% of the players surrounding you. We will have a quick look at each of these components of a good strategy one at a time.
Intelligent bankroll management is essential to a well thought out craps strategy, because without it you have no way of knowing if your strategy is working for you. Bankroll management can be approached a number of ways. One of the best methods, but hardest to follow, is to set loss limits and to stick with them. Many times a player will settle down to play craps and bankroll themselves a hundred dollars. But, with a bad start, the money can disappear quite quickly, and so the player is tempted to increase their bankroll without much consideration. It is just as difficult to set walk away limits for wins, because when you're winning, why leave? Try to set a loss limit for yourself long before you start playing, and keep this limit in mind leading up to and during play. |
